American lifestyle retailer Abercrombie & Fitch has suspended additional retirement income payments to its former CEO, Mike Jeffries. This decision comes in the wake of harrowing allegations against Jeffries involving sex trafficking and abuse.
The brand, known for its casual wear and a history dating back to 1892, has been thrust into the spotlight following accusations that paint a disturbing picture of activities behind the scenes. A class action lawsuit filed by dozens of men alleges that Abercrombie & Fitch
was complicit in a decade-long sex trafficking scheme orchestrated by Jeffries during his tenure from 1992 to 2014. The lawsuit claims that Jeffries exploited young men under the pretense of offering them modelling contracts with the company.
These allegations were further bolstered by a two-year BBC investigation , culminating in a documentary that brought to light interviews with several men who claimed they were propositioned and abused at events linked to Jeffries.
In response to the allegations presented in the BBC documentary, Abercrombie & Fitch expressed their disgust and initiated an independent investigation conducted by an outside law firm. The company's current executive leadership team and board of directors have stated that they were unaware of Mr. Jeffries's alleged misconduct.
