Pierpaolo Piccioli was born on August 29, 1967 , in Nettuno , a seaside town near Rome, Italy . Originally pursuing literature at Sapienza University , he pivoted to fashion when he transferred to Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, graduating in 1989 .
In the early 1990s , Piccioli joined Fendi as a designer in their accessories department, where he collaborated closely with Maria Grazia Chiuri . Their partnership was instrumental in shaping Fendi’s leather goods division prior to their move to Valentino in 1999
. Transformation at Valentino From 2008 to 2016 , Piccioli and Chiuri served as co-creative directors at Valentino , redefining the house’s visual language to connect heritage craft with contemporary romance.
When Chiuri departed for Dior in 2016 , Piccioli assumed sole creative direction, pushing further into inclusive casting, emotional storytelling, and sculptural haute couture. Under his leadership, the brand amplified diversity, social activism, and the fusion of tradition with boundary-pushing modernity.
